Executive Decree 181 about the Temporary Stay in Panama for US Citizens

Executive Decree 181 of 2019 establishes the Temporary Stay Visa in Panama, a program aimed at eligible U.S. citizens who wish to remain in the country for up to one (1) uninterrupted year (without the intention of establishing permanent residence) for the purposes of study, investment, temporary work, or job transfer. In addition, this visa can be extended, along with that of the spouse and children, through annual renewals for up to a maximum of five (5) years.

Requirements to apply for the Temporary Stay Visa in Panama:

1. A valid U.S. passport, along with a complete copy of all pages.
2. 5 passport-size photos.
3. A criminal record or police certificate (for those over 18 years of age), issued recently (valid for 6 months) and formally apostilled or authenticated by the Panamanian consulate in the country of origin.
4. Proof of stay or lodging in Panama, such as a signed lease agreement or hotel reservation.
5. Evidence of the purpose of the temporary stay in the country:
• For study: A formal letter of admission from an accredited educational institution in Panama..
• For employment: A valid employment contract or a letter of employment from a local company.
• For investment/business: Documents demonstrating the investment or the incorporation/registration of the company in Panama.
6. Proof of payment of USD $100 for immigration services.
7. Certificate of good health.
8. Temporary Stay Visa Application Form.
9. Power of attorney.

If the application for a Temporary Stay Visa in Panama includes dependents, the following must be submitted:

• A letter of responsibility signed by the principal applicant.
• Certification proving relationship (marriage or birth certificate).

It is crucial to note that all foreign documents must be duly certified for international use in Panama, this can be accomplished though Secretary of State apostille or Panamanian Consulate consular certification. Additionally, any documents not in Spanish must be translated by an official public translator authorized in Panama.
